There comes a time when an individual has to stand up for himself and say enough! with the nonsense and ignorance. Radical change is what revolution is all about. Evolution is a different matter, and that’s what this Tribe is striving for. We are about change in small ways that eventually stand tall and mighty in the face of modern abomination. Our tribe reveals the better side of living, the incorporation of knowledge, spirituality, fashion, music and culture with life at large.
I, however, am a slightly different animal.
I am a hater.
Through and through.
My blood pulses with gripes, complaints, rants and moans.
I am educated, opinionated, and underrated.
I am an educator, a liberator, and a master debater
My tongue is quick and my mind is quicker.
I decided that I wanted to be greek almost immediately when I came to college. It was a group of black men doing the things that I thought exemplified the positive aspects of college social life: community service, leadership development, and training at parties. The summer following my Freshman year, I was encouraged to watch Spike Lee’s “School Daze.” Although the acting is shoddy and the musical numbers are random at best, the movie is a comical and sometimes challenging look into the black college experience.
The scene highlighted below shows rival girl groups at odds on the basis of skin color and hair texture. The Wannabes, a group of fashionable, light skinned women and the Jiggaboos, their afro-centric counterparts with natural hair berate each other with the desire to be named the most beautiful.
This collage series was made as an experiment in color and photos of celebrities I like.
Although always a fan of Kelis, when she married Nas, somehow my teenage crush died. Something about her changed. She just wasn’t the same girl singing “I hate you so much right now!”
Also check out this amazing video of her with Andre 3000 for the song “millionaire.”
David Walker was a black abolitionist, who was most noted for his most famous
work, a pamphlet named Walker’s Appeal (1829). In his pamphlet, Walker
called for the immediate eradication of slavery by any means necessary:
“Now, I ask you, had you not rather be killed than to be a slave to a tyrant, who takes the life of your mother, wife, and dear little children? Look upon your mother, wife and children, and answer God Almighty; and believe this, that it is no more harm for you to kill a man, who is trying to kill you, than it is for you to take a drink of water when thirsty.”
-David Walker, Walker’s Appeal pg. 30
Walker felt that Blacks had earned a place in America through their suffering
from slavery and in essence Blacks were more entitled to the wealth of the country
than Whites were:
“Let no man of us budge one step, and let slave-holders come to beat us from our country. America is more our country, than it is the whites — we have enriched it with our blood and tears. The greatest riches in all America have arisen from our blood and tears: — and will they drive us from our property and homes, which we have earned with our blood?”
-David Walker, Walker Appeal pg. 71
David Walker‘s immediate call for the eradication of slavery was considered
too radical for many abolitionist in his day. The ability to stand up for your
convictions despite the risk is a trait that all people should strive for.

Curious Tribe is what happens when a group of friends decide that they have the power to change the world. One project at a time, we plan to redefine the way the media portrays youth culture. We call New Orleans home, but we plan to affect everyone everywhere.
