I am a high school teacher, and as such I find myself privy to new and evolving trends in teenage fashion, most of which are pretty ridiculous and fleeting at best. Unfortunately, one fad that has stood the test of time (a three-month-long summer vacation) is one of the worst and weirdest.I call it the neo-ankle fold. It is a blend of two horrific trends, one that died finally in the early-90s and one that I wish would die this very second. Imagine the classic 80s trend, the pinch-rolled jeans. You know it: make your pants tight at the ankle by folding your pants over itself and rolling it up with the fold held tightly in place.
And the other horrible trend is the idiotically baggy pants, common among young males brainwashed into thinking that their waists reside only three inches above their kneecaps.
Now…though they look like baggy capris or clam diggers, the young men in the picture are actually donning denim shorts. This term obviously has lost meaning in the devolution of street fashion. Note their stylish undergarments, one in periwinkle blue and the other in some sort of stupid pattern. Also note the position of their legs, held akimbo in order to hold up their “shorts,” instead of securing them with a belt or, God-forbid, on their natural waists. But I digress.Imagine these two dumb-ass trends combined. Baggy, falling-down pants rolled tightly at the ankle. Yes, America. This is your youth. It is 2007. Do you know what your children are wearing?
Yelle is a revolutionary new artist hailing from Brittany, France who is turning the French hip hop electronica world upside down. Yelle is to French hip hop what Andy Warhol was to art: something new, something controversial, but most importantly, something fresh. Check out this vid for her song “A Cause des Garcons.” It has a simple concept but there’s no denying that it’s mad dope.

i believe that photography should be about more than just taking.
i’m trying to figure out exactly what I want to offer you the viewer.
every week i will contribute a couple of pieces that will focus on a specific theme suggested by my colleagues at curious tribe and you.
i’m open to anything.
I know, I know. Video girl? I’m sure you’re conjuring up images of long weaves, lady humps, and “d-boys” making it rain, but that’s not me. I’m a vintage-loving, fashion obsessed, music junkie that is constantly seeking out the hottest, dopest, freshest ish out there. Lately that has come in the form of videos. The marriage of good music and hot visual concepts gives birth to a whole new world of freshness most people aren’t even prepared for. But I know you Curious Tribe readers won’t let me down. YouTube is my new best friend and together we will be bringing you a weekly dose of hot vids to tease the eye, provoke the mind, or simply make you say “DAMN, THAT’S HOT!”
I added some excellent Voodoo photography from Victoria and Juley to a photo gallery. Click here to view the slideshow.

Curious Tribe is what happens when a group of friends decide that they have the power to change the world. One project at a time, we plan to redefine the way the media portrays youth culture. We call New Orleans home, but we plan to affect everyone everywhere.
