flash flash flash

May 29th, 2008 · 4 Comments

The third video in the series is out. Sorry to disappoint, but you wont find any beach scenes, wide skyline shots, or tales of love. Instead, Kanye gives us something more sinister. A scary story, a murder, complete with disheveled characters from a game of Clue, smoke, and an unending sequence of lightning-esque flashing flights. While I’m still not sure if I really know what the storyline is, I like it. Maybe I’m just intrigued. I’m beginning to feel like these videos all deserve a proper explanation from Mr. West, maybe a blog post Cliff Notes style. Ye’s Notes?

MUTO by BLU

May 29th, 2008 · 2 Comments

MUTO a wall-painted animation by BLU from blu on Vimeo.

I’ve always been a fan of stop motion video but this really takes the cake. For those of you unfamiliar with stop motion, remember those little books with drawings in the corner and when you flipped through the book with your thumb it looked like the drawing was moving? That’s stop motion. Each drawing is an individual slight movement contributing to the overall work. The technique is used often in video and visual art production but I’ve never seen anything like this. I’m sure a few of you saw this over at Kanye’s blog, but for those of you that didn’t..oh.my.gosh.watch.it.now. It’s amazing, creepy, disturbing, and impressive. Maybe ingenius is a better suited adjective? Not only is it a long piece (for stop motion) but it’s also hand painted on public property spanning over one or two city blocks. Enough of my babbling, I think you get the point, it’s awesome. Now watch it.
